Here Suzana had to face numerous challenges. First, this is a film based on a living legend: Louise Arbour, the actual judge of United Nation’s War Crimes Tribunal, nominated by Kofi Annan after the assassination of Sergio Viera de Mello, killed in Baghdad.
Louise Arbour is omnipresent in the news; she is constantly seen on TV as well as in newspapers and magazines. Her wardrobe must thus reflect her ubiquitous and well-publicized personality. Secondly, the film is built on existing war footage and staged reconstructed events. The existing footage describes the horrors of Rwanda and those of Srebrenica (1994 and 1997 respectively). The reconstructed events were shot in Canada in 2005. The transition could not be apparent.
